Extend, improve or otherwise alter existing house

Will result of works make any part of any building added improved or altered, higher than highest part of existing house? yes
Will height of eaves of part of house, extended improved or altered, exceed height of eaves of existing house? yes
Will any enlarged part of house extend beyond a wall, fronting a highway and forming the principal elevation or side elevation of the original house? yes
Will any enlarged part of house be single storey and extend beyond the rear wall of the original house by more than 4 metres, if house detached, or 3 metres, in other cases, or exceed 4 metres in height? yes
Will any enlarged part of house be more than one storey and extend beyond the rear wall of the original house by more than 3 metres, or be within 7 metres of any boundary of the curtilage of a house opposite the rear wall of your house? yes

In all cases, proposed works are subject to the following conditions:-

  • materials used in any exterior work, (except conservatories), must be similar in appearance to those of the existing house.
  • any upper-floor window in a wall or roof slope forming a side elevation of the house must be
    1. obscure-glazed and
    2. non-opening, unless parts capable of being opened are more than 1.7 metres above floor of room, in which window is installed.
  • where an enlarged part of a house has more than one storey, the roof pitch of the enlarged part must, as far as practicable, be the same as the roof pitch of the original house.
