What is BBC Action Network?

BBC Action Network is more of a forum than a website. It aims to give users the opportunity to set up campaigns or write articles about issues that affected them and to put them in contact with likeminded people locally or nationally.

People can use Action Network to set up campaigns about issues that concern them. The campaign pages allow people to publish what they are doing and allow other people to contact them. Campaigners can also keep a diary of what they're doing to resolve an issue. Users can also exchange information by writing their
own articles and by passing on tips from their own personal experiences.

Action Network also  provides users with access to information about local and national elected representatives and representative bodies in the UK and provides links for people to contact their council or MP and advice on how to do this effectively.

Through BBC Action Network, you can:

Find info: Read about 1000s of local issues from grafitti to recycling to medical complaints, and find out how to do something about them.

Find people: Get in touch with your neighbours and local organisations; exchange ideas and experiences.

Take action: If you want something to change, read how you can build support and publicity ... and then set up a campaign on Action Network!

Get Started

1. Register with BBC Action Network

It's a good idea to register as you'll be able to post info on BBC Action Network and your local view by postcode will be saved when you return.

Details remain private & with the BBC. The only published information is your name which appears when you publish something on iCan.

2. Check out your local noticeboard

A great way to see what's happening locally and gather some key local contacts.

Go to the home page and enter your postcode in 'View Local information'

You can find local information about:

  • issues (campaigns, organisations)
  • notices (events, skills wanted, ideas)
  • govt info (MP, Councillor, Council details)

3. Research your local issue

Click 'find info' (top of the page).

Read through the list of 2000+ issues, or search for the issue you're interested in for relevant BBC guides and user articles.

4. Post a local notice

If you've got an event, skills or an idea to share - advertise it on your noticeboard.

  • Once you're signed in, click 'take action' (top of the page).
  • There are a couple of options; you can publicise an idea, an event, skills wanted or skills to share. Select the most appropriate, and enter the details.
  • Make sure you PREVIEW your message before you CREATE it - once created, it can't be changed or deleted

You can also support someone else's notice, or send them a private message.

Start a campaign

  • 1. Set up a campaign page
  • 2. Run a campaign diary
  • 3. Share your story
