Benefits Fraud - Types of Convictions

Prosecutions

A Prosecution is appropriate when the offences are considered serious.

Caution

A caution is intended to be a meaningful penalty and deterrent for those persons where criminal proceedings are not a first option and Administrative penalty action is not appropriate. 

Administrative Penalty

Can be offered to a Customer who have committed benefit fraud as an alternative to prosecution but only where there has been no previous form of fraud. Administrative Penalties cannot be imposed, they must be offered.
