Oswestry Visitor Facilities Infrastructure Project

Improving the visitor experience

Arrival points are being made more welcoming and accessible to visitors. Information and interpretation are integral to enhancements at Gobowen Station, a new coach park has been built adjacent to a new visitor centre in Oswestry and, together with new signage, they will enable the visitor to the borough to access local attractions.

In addition several attractions have been upgraded and enhanced

Ifon Meadows

Installation of gateways and surfacing, a bridle gate allowing horse riders to use the tracks and enabling disabled access into the Local Nature Reserve.  Tourist signs direct visitors from nearby town.

Ifton Meadows

Victorian School Roomat Park Hall Farm Visitor Centre

In support of this new development at the largest visitor attraction in the Borough, a barn has been converted, using as many recycled materials as possible, to house a working Victorian School Room and associated artefacts.  By broadening the appeal of the site a wider range of visitors are encouraged to visit, resulting in safeguarded jobs and creation of new jobs for teachers in the schoolroom.  As a result, visitor numbers are up 8% in 2005, bucking the regional downward trend.
