With the fall in value of used motor vehicles and scrap metal values, a significant rise in the numbers of abandoned vehicles is occurring both locally and nationwide.

Vehicles that are abandoned are a safety hazard in particular to children but also to the population as a whole. Such vehicles are also a problem for the fire service when they are set on fire resulting in unnecessary fire calls.The Council is working with the DVLA, Shropshire County Council, the Police and Shropshire Fire and Rescue.

To Report an abandoned vehicle contact Environmental Services.

This department can deal with any abandoned vehicle that is in the open air. We now have the power to remove a vehicle within 24 hours. However, If the vehicle is parked on private land then permission is needed from the landowner prior to removal.

Please report the matter to the Police if a vehicle is causing an obstruction on the highway or has been involved in crime. The Council can ONLY deal with vehicles that have actually been abandoned, usually this is obvious from the state of the vehicle but merely because a vehicle is untaxed or in poor condition may not necessarily mean that a vehicle has been abandoned and therefore on occasions additional enquiries may have to be made to establish whether the vehicle has been abandoned before the Council can remove it.
