Oswestry Maternity Unit

Details of Public Meetings held about the proposed closure of the Oswestry Maternity Unit.

There were two planned public meetings to discuss the options for the Maternity Unit in Oswestry when it faced closure in early 2007. Since these meetings, the maternity unit has had an extensive refurbishment and opened its doors on the 5th November 2007.

Public Meeting - Marches School, 2 March 2007 at 7:00 pm

Following the success of the 17 January event (see notes found at bottom of this page), the three Health Trusts have promised to come back hopefully with a solution at this follow-up meeting.

Owen Paterson MP, Councillor Arthur Walpole (Chairman of the Borough Council's Scrutiny Committee) and David Lloyd (Leader of the Council) want to hear your views and will ensure these are passed on to the 3 Trusts involved.

Public Meeting - Lecture Theatre, Oswestry Orthopaedic Hospital, 24 January 2007 at 7:00pm

The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust is to hold a public meeting on Wednesday 24 January to highlight issues surrounding the fire certificate at the maternity unit on the Oswestry site.

Independent fire experts will be on hand to answer questions regarding safety concerns of the timber-framed 1920s building which currently houses the maternity unit. RJAH is currently landlord to the unit and maternity services are provided for by Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust and commissioned by Shropshire County Primary Care Trust.

The meeting will be held at 7pm in the Lecture Theatre of the hospital.
