Gambling Act 2005The gambling laws in Great Britain have been updated and a new regime for commercial gambling has been introduced. The Gambling Act 2005 comprehensively updates the gambling laws that were several decades old. The new laws came into effect on 1st September 2007. The Act introduces a new, unified regulator for gambling in Great Britain (The Gambling Commission) and a new regime for commercial gambling. The new regime will be operated and regulated by the Gambling Commission or by Local Authority licensing departments, depending upon who or what is being licensed. The new Act repeals the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963, the Gambling Act 1968 and the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976. The Act has three main aims:
