Economic Development & Business in Oswestry Borough

Oswestry Borough Council is committed to providing a wide range of services to businesses and the community throughout the Borough.

The vision of the Community Strategy for Oswestry is to provide "A welcoming, vibrant area where talent is nurtured and where people and businesses have the opportunity to flourish and prosper in a high quality environment".

The Council's Economic Development & Partnerships Unit works in partnership with various organizations to secure funding and attract new investment into the Borough.

Since 1999, over £16 million worth of investment has taken place through various schemes including Market Town Initiative, Community Tourism & various schemes carried out under the Rural Regeneration Objective 5B Programme. The effect of this has included the creation of 88 new jobs, £1.47 million in new sales, over 50 businesses assisted & 25 new business start ups.

One of the Units current priorities is to work in partnership with Shropshire County Council and the Regional Development Agency, Advantage West Midlands, to identify opportunities for investment in land and infrastructure to accommodate business start-ups and expansion opportunities for existing businesses in accordance with the our Economic Strategy and the Local Development Framework.

The Council is in the process of establishing an Oswestry Business Forum with the aim of engaging the Boroughs businesses in the continuing development of the community's economic strategy. It will also provide a forum through which to further topics such as availability of land and premises, workforce skills and how the Council could improve its services to businesses.
