Local Area Agreements (LAAs)

LAA's are the big new idea of central government and Shropshire is one of the third wave of pilots.

What is the Shropshire LAA?

A three year formal agreement between Central Government and Shropshire on working towards established local priorities to improve the quality of life for local people.  The priorities come from the Integrated Shropshire Community Strategy.

Partners in the LAA work together and pool resources and budgets to tackle issues in a joined up way.  In return central government will grant some flexibilities and freedoms for partners to try new ways of working.  The focus of the LAA is on what is done, not how it is done.  Targets are outcome focused and should deliver clear improvements that will be noticed by local people.

The LAA is broken down into four 'blocks' each of which is managed by a partnership led by a County Director and a District Chief Executive.

  • Children and young peoples  (Children's Trust)
  • Healthier communities and older people  (HC&OP Partnership)
  • Safer and stronger communities (SASC Partnership)
  • Sustainable communities (Sustainable Communities Partnership)

The overall LAA is managed by the Shropshire Partnership, through the Public Service Board and LSP Management Group.  For up to date versions of the LAA and performance reports against it go straight to the Shropshire partnership website.
