Concessionary Travel Overview

Introduction

From 1st April 2008 there will be a free fare bus pass for use on local buses throughout England. These will allow eligible people to travel free anywhere in England between 9.30a.m. and 11:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and all day at weekends and Bank Holidays.

In order for Oswestry Borough Council to provide this new bus pass, all eligible residents of the borough must complete an application form. This is available to download using the link at the bottom of this page or from the main Council office reception at Castle View.

A leaflet detailing the terms and conditions of the new Concessionary Travel Scheme is available from the Council reception at Castle View. An audio tape of the leaflet is also available, on request.


Am I eligible?

YES -If you live in the Borough of Oswestry and you are -

  1. over 60 years old

OR

YES - If you live in the Borough of Oswestry and you are -
 

  1. disabled in any of the following ways:-
    1. registered blind/partially sighted(BD8 form)
    2. registered deaf and/or have profound speech impairment
    3. learning disability - impairing intelligence
    4. not permitted to drive on medical grounds due to a permanent disability
    5. without use of both arms
    6. seriously impaired ability to walk

GUIDANCE TO APPLICATION FORM: CONCESSIONARY FARES SCHEME 2008/09

Please read these guidance notes carefully before filling in the application form:-

  • This form can be produced in large print, if required.
  • All those applying must be residents of the Borough of Oswestry (i.e. pay Council Tax to us).
  • The application form must be completed in full.
  • If you are blind /partially blind, get someone to fill the form in for you (the talking pages tape will explain it to you).
  • Please let us know if you ever change address at any time.

N. B.   It is a condition of the issue of the new "All England" Bus Card that it remains the property of the Council. Therefore, if the user ceases to be a resident of Oswestry, either by moving to different Council area or the death of the user, the card must be returned to the Council.

Signature

All forms must be signed by the applicant. For those unable to do so please seek advice by telephoning 01743 210336 or visit your local Council office.

Attaching Photographs

  • Please glue a passport size colour photograph (so we can put this onto your new bus card).
  • Do not stick the photograph with sellotape as it will not scan properly.
  • Ensure that the glued photograph is fixed firmly to the application form. It will have to be done again if they become separated.
  • Photographs should be no more than 12 months old.
  • The only difference to a passport photograph is that you can smile if you wish.

Alternative to the Bus Pass

If you wish to forgo your bus pass, you must still fill in the application form but indicate you wish to receive the Senior Citizens Railcard by ticking the appropriate box. The cost will be £7 to any recipient for year 2008/09. This only applies to those who are 60 years +.

Delivery of Forms

All completed forms must be hand delivered to the Oswestry Borough Council's Offices at Castle View, Oswestry, together with proof of eligibility. Please follow link above for details of acceptable forms of proof.

All those people who become eligible for a concession after the 1st. April,2008, will also have to complete the application form. They will be available at Castle View for collection or may be downloaded and printed by following the link at the bottom of the page.
