Council Tenancies - Installing Satellite DishesPlanning RestrictionsOswestry Borough Council acknowledges that many tenants want to enjoy the benefits of digital satellite television. We will not unreasonably refuse permission or impose unrealistic rules on the installation of satellite dishes. However, tenants must accept that satellite dishes cannot be installed at all properties. This is because the planning authorities put restrictions on certain buildings - e.g. blocks of flats, listed buildings and those in a conservation zone or area of outstanding natural beauty. If your home appears to be in one of these categories you must seek additional advice from your Area Housing Officer and the Development Control Department before proceeding. Remember that even if you cannot have a satellite dish you may still be able to receive digital television through a conventional Aerial. Getting PermissionBefore you install a satellite dish on a Council property you must get written permission from the Administrative Assistants at Housing Services at Alexandra Road by filling in and returning the application form available at the bottom of this page. If you live in one of our blocks of flats - e.g.: Castlefields, Swan Lane, Chaucer Road or Unicorn Road then you may also need to apply for planning permission before installing a satellite dish. As a general guide, if there is already one dish or more installed on your block or the dish is likely to be higher than the highest point of the roof then you will probably need to get planning permission before installing the dish. DepositPermission to install a satellite dish will usually be granted when the tenant has paid a refundable deposit of twenty five pounds (£25.00). This must be paid before the dish is installed. The deposit is to cover any repair costs incurred by the Council if the satellite dish is removed causing damage to the property - e.g. at the end of the tenancy. The deposit will of course be refunded if no repair works are required. Please send in your application with your twenty five pound deposit to the Housing office (address given below). Cheques should be marked on the back with the budget code Q9000 Q9K2E ConditionsAfter the deposit has been paid, permission will be granted subject to the following:
