Sustainable Development

"That Oswestry Borough has a thriving, sustainable economy & environment offering its residents, business, investors and visitors recognised areas of excellence" 

Oswestry Community Partnership wants to ensure that Oswestry Borough becomes increasingly economically successful, but that economic success is not achieved at the expenses of the local environment and local quality of life. Our Community Strategy therefore considers issues relating to the Economy and the Environment of the borough within one theme for this reason.

Achieving a balance between economic development and environmental sustainability can only be achieved by understanding and applying the principles of sustainable development.  The quality of the Borough's environment is one of its most valuable assets, and includes a rich built heritage, diverse and sensitive habitats and attractive landscape. We know that if we fail to protect the Borough's environment today, each future generation including our children will pay the price.

Environment Delivery Group

This delivery group is placed under the Sustainable Development pillar which as seen above relates to a prosperous economy and a valued and improving environment. With this in mind the focus of this delivery group is to promote and improve the capacity of partners in developing community led activities and processes that promote sustainable development in the borough, with particular link to supporting activities relating to environmental action within the parishes.
