Race Equality SchemeThis Council is committed to equality of opportunities and equality of treatment, not only in its employment and personnel practices but also in providing services fairly to all sections of the community. It is also committed, through working in partnerships, to eliminating all forms of unfair treatment and discrimination within the Borough. The Council adopted its first Race Equality Scheme in May 2002. This was updated and replaced in May 2005, by a three year Scheme covering the period 2005 to 2008. The Council's Corporate Customer Charter can be viewed by clicking here. 86% of our buildings, which are open to the public, have all public areas suitable for and accessible to disabled people. MonitoringIn 2004 we set up systems to monitor our employment practices and policies to ensure we do not discriminate against different racial groups, genders or people with a disability. The results shown below provide a baseline for services to measure future performance against and will assist us in assessing and taking action if there is any adverse impact. AssessmentsAs part of its Race Equality Scheme 2002 action plan, Oswestry Borough Council undertook to carry out assessments of the likely impact of its proposed policies on promoting race equality. A list of the assessments completed by 1 March 2007 can be viewed by clicking here. As part of its work towards meeting the Equality Standard for Local Government, the Council re-prioritised the assessments to enable a more thorough assessment of the functions, policies and procedures that are important to people not only of different racial groups but also different genders or with a disability. The prioritised Functions, Policies and Procedures for more thorough assessment document can be viewed by clicking here.
