A Christmas Message from the Leader promises:

Progress on Key Schemes PLUS

A Freeze on Council Tax

The Council of the Borough of Oswestry is poised for a year of intense activity in 2008.

Prospects for the year ahead have been outlined by Councillor David Lloyd, the Council Leader, in his Christmas Message.
While considerable effort needs to be invested in shaping the new Single Council for Shropshire to take over the wide range of activities currently undertaken by OBC, a number of key initiatives will also be advanced.

Acquisition of the railway land clears the way and finally gives the green light for work to commence on Phase One of the new Medical Centre.

The deal will also give the amber light for the Cambrian Railway Society and Cambrian Railway Trust to beaver away to link Oswestry with the work already undertaken at Llynclys.

Councillor Lloyd said:  "The day when we see an engine steaming up behind the Cambrian Centre, the former headquarters of Cambrian Railways, will provide the boost that Oswestry needs to become a significant player in UK tourism".

"The Council is also planning an early event to discuss rationalising and increasing the impact of tourism as part of the economic development of our area".

"We also hope that new investment and jobs will stem from opening up new serviced sites for industrial activity."

Councillor Lloyd anticipates that early consideration will be given to advancing the Oz Park Lifestyle Scheme ahead of the 2012 London Olympics.  "This, together with the amount of private investment in train will give the people within the Oswestry area access to a range of facilities geared to fitness, health and general well-being."

Oswestry will also have a significant hand to play in shaping unitary governance for Shropshire, so that it delivers services that match those of the highest quality currently available, and in the most cost effective way.

"The good news is that through the use of savings and reserves the Council's Cabinet is for no increase in the level of Council Tax with no reduction in services".
