Shropshire Homelessness Strategy Implementation Group

Overview

Further to the publishing of the first countywide Homelessness Strategy in 2003, Shropshire has been working to address the issues and causes of homelessness within its five boroughs.

Through the Shropshire Homelessness Strategy Implementation Group (HSIG), Shropshire has embraced and responded positively to the Department of Communities and Local Government's (DCLG) changing agenda concerning homelessness. Adopting a proactive approach to addressing homelessness and implementing practical initiatives in homelessness prevention and housing options, HSIG have successfully achieved a number of objectives set out within the original strategy.

2003 - 2008 Shropshire Homelessness Strategy Review

The Review presents the results of HSIG evaluation, assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the Shropshire Homelessness Strategy 2003 - 2008, in light of the changes in national and regional policy context and local trends in homelessness. It celebrates our success in addressing homeless so far and sets out our priorities, objectives and plans for the future.

Focusing in each of the Vulnerable Groups (previously named 'Service User Groups' in the original strategy) in turn, the 2003 - 2008 Shropshire Homelessness Strategy Review systematically looks at the original targets and objectives that were set in 2003.  The Review then evaluates what has been achieved and what needs to be taken forward as an outstanding priority for 2008 and beyond.

As well as assessing implementation success, the Review looks once more at the current homelessness situation in Shropshire. Working with partners and agencies across the County to achieve this, the 2003 - 2008 Shropshire Homelessness Review provides us with a benchmark from which to progress from in 2008.

2008 - 2009 Shropshire Homelessness Strategy Action Plan

Focusing on proactive homelessness prevention, the 2008 - 2009 Shropshire Homelessness Strategy Action Plan sets the agenda for HSIG for the next twelve months. Spanning the transitional period between the move from Local Authority to Unitary Authority status, the 2008 - 2009 Action Plan illustrates the immediate priorities as determined by HSIG members and key service providers.
