Section 7: Residential Caravans and Mobile Homes

Introduction

3.193 In the past, because of the generally low price and ready availability of permanent housing in the Borough and the stability of the residential population, there has not been significant pressure for residential caravan sites, (except for Gypsy families). Therefore, at present, there is only one permanent residential caravan site in the Borough, situated at Whittington Road, Oswestry.

3.194 The siting of residential caravans and mobile homes in the countryside and around minor settlements can be detrimental to the visual amenity and character of such areas, and will therefore be resisted. However, exceptions will be considered where such accommodation is required on a temporary basis for reasons of personal care.

3.195 Normally, applications for sites for residential caravans or mobile homes will be considered on the same basis as permanent dwellings and should therefore be located within recognised settlements.
