Policy TR5Proposed Car Park, Former Arthur's Garage Site, OswestryA site for the development of a car park is allocated at the former Arthur's Garage Site, Oswestry. 4.20 - This site will be developed as a new public car park, in conjunction with the development the large Sainsbury food store at the Thomas's Yard/Coney Green site. STATEMENT - Public Transport Facilities 4.21 - The Borough Council will encourage the retention of existing bus and rail services throughout the Borough, and the provision of new ones. Particular priority will be attached to services which : 1. Connect rural settlements with the town of Oswestry, and 2. Are important in providing access to workplaces, educational establishments and other community facilities. In addition, the Borough Council will encourage the introduction of other appropriate initiatives which complement existing public transport facilities. 4.22 - It should be recognised, however, that the Borough Council's direct control over such services is limited and therefore its main influence is through the location of new development and targeting any contributions from developers. The co-ordination and integration of the various components of the transport network is also vital in ensuring that it is utilised to its full potential. 4.23 - Oswestry Borough Council currently supports in principle and by practical assistance the Oswestry Borough 'Dial-A-Ride' service provided for the mobility-handicapped by Oswestry and District Helpmates. 4.24 - The aim of this policy is to ensure that existing public transport facilities are retained at current levels and improved during the course of the plan period.
