Policy TR3: Car Parking and New Development

The Borough Council will require new development to provide parking on site in accordance with the parking provisions set out in the separate Appendix to this Plan.

The standards may be relaxed in the case of development proposals in Central Oswestry , as considered appropriate by the Borough Council. Such cases may include :

1. Development proposals in locations which are well served by public transport, and/or

2. Occasions where the developer pays a financial contribution to off-site parking, and/or

3. Occasions where the developer pays a commuted sum towards the connection of the site to the public transport network, or towards the improvement of existing public transport services.

4.18 - The car-parking standards applied by the Borough Council are included in a separate appendix to this document, and will be applied to new development during the plan period. However, in the case of town and town centre developments these standards may be relaxed where the site is well served by public transport or where the developer is prepared to contribute to the establishment or improvement of public transport facilities connecting the site. Car parking takes up significant amounts of space in new developments and such relaxations of the standards may allow developers to use land more efficiently as well as encouraging the use and improvement of the public transport network.
