Policy H32: New Gypsy Sites

The Borough Council, in association with the County Council, will seek to ensure that adequate sites are provided for Gypsies residing in or regularly resorting to the Borough. Planning applications for private Gypsy sites will be considered in accordance with the following criteria:

1. Sites shall be provided within or close to an area normally frequented by Gypsies and shall be for occupation by families with a proven association with the area,
and

2. Sites shall be located where proper drainage, water and electricity supplies are available , and avoid areas which may be subject to flooding,
and

3. Sites shall be located so as to avoid affecting existing residential areas,
and

4. The boundaries of the site shall be clearly defined and fenced to avoid nuisance to adjoining land,
and

5. The site shall be screened from adjacent properties in order to mitigate its impact on the surrounding countryside,
and

6. The site shall be readily accessible from, and have safe access directly onto, a public highway without passing other residential properties,
and

7. The site should not affect high quality agricultural land, S.S.S.I.'s or sites of nature conservation importance.
