Policy LE11: Extensions to Employment Premises

Provided that an existing employment operation is on an acceptable site, and is of a type and usage considered suitable to its location, its extension or intensification will be allowed provided that:

1. The development is of a good standard of design and construction, does not detract from the character of the surrounding area, includes adequate landscaping and does not result in an over-development of the site, and

2. The proposal would not give rise to unacceptable levels of traffic and would contain provision for adequate parking and manoeuvering space, and would have adequate highway access, and

3. The development would not cause an undue loss of amenity to surrounding properties, and

4. The premises are accessible to the workforce by a choice of means of travel, and

5. Development can be adequately served by foul and surface water drainage and will not give rise to an unacceptable risk of pollution.

5.35 - Proposals for the extension of established industrial concerns will be considered sympathetically whenever this can be adequately accommodated in accordance with the policy criteria.
