Policy OS2: Protection of Open Space

Planning permission will not be granted for the development of open spaces which make an important contribution to the town or village scene.

Consideration of proposals involving loss of open space, whether or not identified on the Inset Maps, will take account of intended replacement provision.

• 8.17 - In some settlements specific areas of open space are identified on the Inset Maps, and these are considered particularly worthy of protection. Each settlement will, however, possess open space elements the value of which should be taken into account when assessing development proposals. Only if no alternative sites exist will proposals which include areas of important open space be considered and in such cases proposals may also be required to include provisions for replacement open space.
  
  
• 8.18 - The development boundary for Oswestry town has been deliberately drawn to exclude areas of open space (known as ‘Green Wedges’) which extend into the urban area. These are important areas of open space and have been subject to development pressures in the past but will continue to be protected by virtue of being outside the development boundary. These Green Wedges form an important part of the Urban Green Network as set out in Policy OS9.
