Paying Over the telephone

You can use our 24 hour automated phone service for payment of your Council Tax, Business Rates, Rent, Housing Benefit Repayment, or Land Charges Invoice by calling 0161 627 9955. Calls are charged at standard national rates. Alternatively you can use our on-line payments module on our Website. Follow the secure link on the homepage. We do not currently accept credit card payments via these method.

Debit Cards Only

If you are paying by cheque, the cashiers can print your cheque for you to check and sign. If there is a queue at the Cash Office, you can leave your cheque in the box provided - you will need to also have your reference number on the cheque and a name and address if you want a receipt for your payment.

Please note - if you pay by cash, the cashier will always give you a receipt.

Direct Debit

It is convenient and safe. There is no need to queue at the Council Offices to pay and you don't have to remember to write a cheque and post it every month. You are also covered by the national direct debit guarantee scheme, which ensures that in the unlikely event of a mistake being made, you will be given a full and immediate refund by your bank.

Contact the Council Tax Section for a form on 01691 677320.

Difficulties in Paying

You can pay Council Tax in one instalment on 1st May, or half-yearly on 1st May and 1st November. Otherwise, you can pay in monthly or weekly installments. If you are unable to pay the instalments shown on your bill, contact the office to make an arrangement - we can change the amount of instalments and spread the payments out if you are having difficulty.

Do not wait until you receive a reminder letter or summons for non-payment - contact the office on 01691 677320 or e-mail us at counciltax@oswestry-bc.gov.uk as soon as you are having problems.
