Street Care Street CareThe responsibility for inspecting and repairing faults on the highway (including the carriageway, footpath and highway verge) rests with Shropshire County Council Highways Maintenance Department. Shropshire County Council Street CleaningThe Council is responsible for the sweeping of streets and removal of litter. The council undertakes regular scheduled street cleaning of roads and footpaths within towns and villages in the District. Different areas of the District are cleaned on different frequencies, but as a general rule, the following criteria apply:
The more frequently the road is used, the more often it will be swept. However, if the visual appearance of an area should deteriorate to an unacceptable level between cleans, it will be cleaned up within a certain time, as laid down in a Litter Code of Practice under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. If you need further information on street cleaning in your area, or wish to check when your street is next due to be cleaned please contact Technical Services using the contact details at the bottom of this page. Street Litter BinsLitter in a public place is unsightly, dangerous to animals, and an offence. The average fine for littering is around £95, but can be up to £2,500. Litter ranges in size from a single sweet wrapper, to a bag full of rubbish. The Environmental Protection Act of 1990 states that if a person drops, throws, deposits, or leaves anything that causes defacement in a public place, they are committing a littering offence. So always try to use a litter bin or take it home. Please contact Technical Services to report any problems with a litter bin, or to request a litter bin at a new location.
