How do I Apply for Benefit

If you would like to apply for Housing and/or Council Tax Benefit you will need to complete an application form available from the Council.  You can telephone the Council on 01691 677330 to request a form or call into our office.

If you apply for Income Support, Job Seeker's Allowance or Pension Credit there will be an application form for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit in your claim pack.  You may complete this to apply for Housing and Council Tax Benefit.

The application form should be returned to Oswestry Borough Council straightaway. If there is a delay in receiving your application form, you may loose money.

If you are entitled to Income Support, Job Seeker's Allowance or Pension Credit, you need to provide confirmation of this.

You will also need to provide two items of evidence to confirm your identity and verification of your National Insurance Number.

If you are not entitled to any of these benefits you will be required to provide evidence to confirm all the details you have entered on your application form.  Every document you bring us as proof must be the original - no photocopies or faxes are allowed.  We will take a copy of the documents and return them to you immediately.

If you do not have any proof immediately available you must still submit your claim.  If you do not produce the original documents required, your claim will be delayed and no benefits will be paid.  Evidence to support any claim must be provided within 1 calendar month, otherwise the claim becomes invalid and a fresh claim will be required.  If you are unable to provide the necessary evidence, you must contact us immediately.
