Housing Benefit Entitlement Guide
Housing Benefit provides help with your rent. The smallest amount of benefit we pay is 50 pence a week. Eligible rent is the amount of rent you pay, less deductions for items such as heating, lighting, meals, water rates, ineligible support costs and so on. Your rent must also be reasonable. If you are charged an unreasonable rent or you are in accommodation which is too large for you, we will restrict our assessment.
There are separate rules for single people under 25 who rent accommodation from a private landlord. Please contact the Housing Benefit Service if you would like more information about this.
