Anti Social BehaviourWhat Can I Do If I Don't Get On With My Neighbour?Everyone has the right to enjoy life in their own way providing they don't upset people living near them. A good neighbour will tolerate and understand the different lifestyle of others. We believe that everyone has the right to peaceful occupation of their home free from harassment, nuisance and annoyance. We will help tenants to solve their problems through discussion and understanding but will take action quickly when necessary. This guide provides advice on what people can do to solve the problems themselves, how the Council can help in more serious matters and how other organisations can provide assistance. Anti-Social BehaviourThe tenancy agreement states that the tenant is responsible not only for their own behaviour but for the actions of everyone who lives with them, including children, and for anyone visiting their home. We can take action if the problem happens not only in the home but also anywhere in the locality. The tenant and people they are responsible for must not cause a nuisance, annoyance or inconvenience to any other person. Examples of this could include: Constantly playing loud music or television, arguing, door slamming, dog barking and fouling, running a business for car repairs, drunken or other offensive behaviour, selling or using drugs and rubbish dumping This is not a complete list and we may also be able to offer advice or take action over other sorts of nuisance too. HarassmentHarassment is the term used for incidents that are more serious than nuisance annoyance or inconvenience. Harassment in some circumstances is a criminal offence and we will act quickly with the police to stop people who victimise others. Examples of behaviour likely to be described as harassment include: Racist behaviour or language, using or threatening to use violence, using abusive or insulting words or gestures, damaging or threatening to damage another persons home or possessions, writing threatening, abusive or insulting graffiti.
